No, video does not show Israeli Air Force firing on it’s own citizens.

By now, you should have come across the many variants that accompany the green video that has been circulating heavily on various social media platforms.

The earliest form of the current form of the video that alleges that Israeli Air Force shot it’s own civilians appeared online in early November 2023.

The first person to share the current form of the video appears to be Maram Susli who is better known as “Partisan Girl” or “Syrian Girl”. She shared the video on November 9th 2023 captioning it as follows.

BREAKING: Israel admits apache helicopters fired on their own civilians running from the Supernova music festival. “The pilots realised that there was tremendous difficulty in distinguishing within the occupied outposts and settlements who was a terrorist and who was a soldier or civilian… The rate of fire against the thousands of terrorists was tremendous at first, and only at a certain point did the pilots begin to slow down the attacks and carefully select the targets.”

Another account calling itself “Pelham” shared it on Nov 9th 2023 the video captioning it:

BOMBSHELL: Leaked footage from Israeli Airforce proves it was the IDF that took out its own citizens with Apache Helicopter on October 7 at the music festival….

The above account also shared the video again on Nov 19th 2023 and Sept 8th 2024

Several prominent accounts shared the video here and here.

The Facts

The original video from where the clips are obtained was first shared by IDF on October 9th 2023 as part of a long form video (the clipped video begins from minute 2:06 to minute 2:20).

Several accounts monitoring the early stages of the attacks shared the clipped version of the above video and posted it online on October 9th 2023.

These clips appear to be the ones that were appropriated many months later on, to be used as “evidence” for various claims.

A Newsweek report on Oct 10th 2023 also capture the correct events which was Israeli army engaging with Hamas militants and not shooting at civilians at Nova Festival.

BBC’s Shayan Sardarizadeh who is a senior journalist at BBC Verify first debunked the video on November 9th 2023.

He again debunked the video on September 9th 2024 which is when the claims surged again.

A thorough investigation by GeoConfirmed on November 10th 2023 found the assertion that IDF was shooting at civilians to be false.

Verdict

The assertion is false and misleading.
