- How do you select which claims to fact check? We prioritize investigating claims that are widely circulating in social media platforms, have significant and immediate public impact, and can be thoroughly researched using credible sources as quickly as possible.
- What criteria do you use to determine if a claim is true or false? We rely on a rigorous, multi-step verification process that involves consulting original sources, expert opinions, and well-established facts. We strive for impartiality and objectivity in our assessments and we welcome corrections where necessary.
- How often do you update your fact check findings? We continuously monitor developing stories and update our fact checks as new information becomes available. Our goal is to provide the most current and accurate information possible. New information that is not yet reflected can be relayed to us whenever possible.
- Do you accept submissions from the public for potential fact checks? Yes, we welcome submissions from the public. You can use our online contact form or email address to report claims you’d like us to investigate and we would get back to you as soon as possible.
- How can I be sure your fact checks are reliable and unbiased? Transparency is a core value. We disclose our methodology, source materials, and reasoning behind each fact check assessment. Our team of researchers have a track record of nonpartisan, evidence-based journalism. We also disclose any funding that we receive. We don’t accept any political funding in order to maintain our impartiality.
- What happens if a fact check reveals that a claim is partly true or partially false? In cases where the truth is more nuanced, we provide a detailed breakdown explaining the different elements and our assessment of each one. We welcome rebuttals.
- Do you fact check claims made by public figures and elected officials? Yes, we fact check claims across the political spectrum, regardless of the speaker’s stature or position. All elected public leaders are fact checked for accountability purposes.
- How do you handle situations where there is insufficient evidence to definitively prove or disprove a claim? When the evidence is inconclusive, we transparently note the limitations and uncertainties in our findings and provide an explanatory note in our work.
- Can I republish or share your fact check articles on my own website or social media? Yes, you are welcome to share our fact check content, provided you link back to the original article and do not modify the information. Please share with us your publication for our records. We do not charge any fee for republication of our content.
